DALLAS, Texas, January 1, 2002 Ð Defending national champion Oklahoma removed all the trickery from Arkansas’ slippery two-quarterback offense Tuesday in the 66th Cotton Bowl Classic, punching out a school record-tying nine sacks en route to a 10-3 victory before an overflow crowd of 72,955.

SOONERS BRING SMILES TO KIDS AT HOSPITAL|OU Center Vince Car

DALLAS – The No. 10 Oklahoma Sooners took a break out of their preparations for the 66th SBC Cotton Bowl Classic to visit the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas on Thursday afternoon. Head Coach Bob Stoops and the entire Sooner squad met with approximately 150 children at the hospital. The players signed autographs, distributed toys donated by Bank of America and t-shirts donated by SBC and the Dr Pepper Bottling Company. Dr Pepper also donated beverages for the party.

It will be “Boomer Sooner” versus “Pig Sooie” in Big D. The crimson and cream of Oklahoma will clash with the cardinal and white of Arkansas at the 66th SBC Cotton Bowl Classic on New Year’s Day.
Fred McClure, Chairman of the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association, extended the invitation Sunday afternoon to Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt. OU is making its first trip to the SBC Cotton Bowl after accepting the Cotton Bowl’s invitation on Dec. 3.
“The SBC Cotton Bowl is thrilled to bring two of the nation’s most prominent football programs to Dallas to play in one of the most storied bowls in America,” McClure said.

DALLAS Ð Seven individuals who helped shape the Cotton Bowl and college football history were inducted into the Southwestern Bell Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame on May 15.
Southwestern Bell and the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association announced the Class of 2001 on April 12. The inductees include Texas tackle Scott Appleton, Syracuse halfback Ernie Davis, Miami defensive tackle Russell Maryland, Clemson and Rice coach Jess Neely, Arkansas defensive tackle Loyd Phillips, Texas split end Charles “Cotton” Speyrer, and Houston coach Bill Yeoman.
